CHAPEL HILL (March 14, 2026) – Public Ed Works staff participated in the 20th annual Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation 5K for Education on Saturday.
With 22 booths and just over 2,000 people registered, participants came to walk, run, and support education—a cause that is more important than ever as North Carolina sinks to the bottom of the nation in public school funding effort.
“It’s all about our teachers, our students, our families,” said Madeline Blobe, Executive Director of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation.
The fundraiser benefited local schools and the Public School Foundation’s “Teachers First” fund, which provides money for programs like national board reimbursements, classroom grants, awards and conference travel.

“Schools across the state and across the country are facing challenges,” said Katherine Astro, board chair of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation. “We can do our best to help them financially, but we also feel like we can help support emotionally, and that’s a missing piece often.”

Visitors nominated their favorite educator to win a swag bag.
Teachers who visited the Public Ed Works booth received a free T-shirt, while others nominated their favorite educator for a swag bag full of teaching supplies.
